Asbestos Awareness Course
Course aims
This half day course is designed to raise awareness of risks to those liable to disturb asbestos at work, or who may influence how asbestos work is carried out. The course meets the requirements for Asbestos Awareness training as outlined in the Approved Code of Practice for the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2006.

Objectives
The main objectives of this course are to explain:

  • The types and properties of asbestos
  • The health risks associated with exposure to asbestos
  • The main types of asbestos containing materials and where they can be found
  • The duty to manage asbestos in non domestic properties
  • Safe work practices
  • Control limits
  • The use of PPE and RPE and their limitations
  • Accidental release and decontamination procedures
Who should attend?
The course is aimed at those whose work could expose them to asbestos, including those who work in demolition, refurbishment and maintenance trades. The course is also intended for those who want a basic understanding of the risks associated with work with asbestos.
Learning outcomes At the end of the course delegates will be able to:
  • List the three main types of asbestos
  • Understand the health risks associated with exposure to asbestos
  • Understand the types and uses of some of asbestos containing materials and where they can be found
  • Identify the main requirements of the duty to manage asbestos in on domestic properties
  • Explain basic decontamination procedures
